Kathmandu Durbar Square
Kathmandu Durbar Square is listed on UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kathmandu is ruled by Malla dynasty in 12th to 18th century. They made many temples, Durbar which is rich in arts and architecture. Kathmandu Durbar Square is among three square within valley. The two more Durbar Square are : Patan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Kathmandu Durbar Square is a meditative, religious site for spiritual seekers and history explorer. There is Hanuman Dhoka in the center of the Sqaure which used to be the King Palace of Shah & Malla dyanasty.
Swyambhunath Temple
Swyambhunath literally means ‘self existent one ‘. Swyambunath was established by King Manadeva in 13th century. Sine then this place becoming the center for spiritual seeker. It is beleived that Swyambhu was born out of a lotus flower and spread across Kathmandu valley. Swyambunath lies on the top of the hill, the base of the hill is surrounded by prayers wheels and deities. The Buddha stupa lies on the west of the temple. Thousands of Hindu, Christains and Buddhist people visit this temple everyday which shows the religious harmony in Nepal.
Pashupathinath Temple
Pashupatinath is one of the oldest and famous temple in Kathmandu which is equally famous for Indian Hindu people. This temple is situated on the bank of Bagmati river. The important festival observed here is Shivaratri which we can understand ‘Night of Lord Shiva’. On this day, the devotees and pilgrims from across the country visit this temple. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims from India also visit this temple. Taking photos inside the temple is prohibited. If you want to go inside the temple, you need to open your shoes, leather bags, belt etc.
Boudhanath Stupa
The Boudhanath Stupa is situated 8km west of downtown Kathmandu. It is one of the biggest stupa in Kathmandu. This stupa is believed to built in 14th century. This stupa is becoming a focal point of all Hindu and Buddhist spiritual seekers. A large number of Tibetan refugees live around the monasteries who contributed to built this monasteries after earthquake 2015 . This Stupa is listed on UNESCO world heritage since 1979. It is believed that this stupa was built in 600 AD when Song Tsen Gompo, the Tibetan King converted to Buddhism.
